Journal Scope

Infancia y Aprendizaje (Spanish for “Childhood and Learning”), Journal for the Study of Education and Development publishes original works of research and intervention on human learning and cultural developmental processes all throughout the life span.

Infancia y Aprendizaje is published by Fundación Infancia y Aprendizaje (FIA) in association with Routledge. It was founded in 1978, and quickly became (and remains to this day) the most relevant journal on educational and developmental psychology in Spanish language.

Currently, the journal is fully bilingual: all articles are published in English and Spanish, and manuscripts may be submitted in either language.

Many important researchers have participated in the journal as authors and/or members of the Editorial Board: J. Belsky, J. Bruner, U. Bronfenbrenner, M. Cole, M. Gauvain, D. C. Geary, Y. M Goodman, J. Goodnow, P. M. Greenfield, B. Inhelder, A. Karmiloff-Smith, D. Khun, L. M. Laosa, L. C. Moll, K. Nelson, D. Olson, B. Rogoff, G. Salomon, G. B. Saxe, M. Scardamalia, H. R. Schaffer, I. If you wish to have a look into the journal, you may visit Prospectives in Developmental Psychology, a free-to-access collection of some of its most interesting articles.

Main editorial goals

Our commitment as a Foundation is to advancing scientific knowledge by publishing high-quality works that are interesting to researchers worldwide, who read and cite our journals because they find them relevant and groundbreaking.

In this context, these are FIA’s main goals for this Editorial term:

1. Recruiting and promoting quality debate among renowned and promising authors who work in fields and themes relevant to the journal scope.

2. Strengthening in English-speaking countries the journal’s current status in Spanish-speaking countries as an internationally relevant, go-to source in developmental and educational psychology.

3. Increasing the journal’s Impact Factor.

Bilingual Co-Editorship

Infancia y Aprendizaje is a bilingual journal with a firm intention to become an established, go-to reference for both the English-speaking and the Spanish-speaking research communities. In order to have maximum input from and impact on these two communities, FIA is open to appointing two Co-Editors, one for each language area.

Whether the Editor is fluent in both languages, or rather relies on a Co-Editor and/or a sufficient number of Associate Editors for managing manuscripts submitted on the other language, is an open decision (FIA may provide with suggestions and assistance to this respect). In any case, appointed Editor/s should have a (combined) network of scholars who may become Associate Editors, members of the Board, and/or reviewers, sufficient to review manuscripts submitted in both languages.

Qualifications and requirements of candidates

The main qualities needed are: an established record of scholarship in the field of developmental psychology; management skills to supervise the full editorial cycle from manuscript submission through publication and to meet deadlines; and the ability to recruit for the Editorial Board renowned experts with a similar skill set.

The role also implies the following responsibilities:

-Providing with a clear vision for the direction of the journal during his/her tenure as Editor/Co-Editor, as well as advancing the means intended to attain it.

-Assembling a team of Associate Editors, sufficient in number to guarantee expertise of all subdisciplines covered by the journal, as well as to carry out all manuscripts’ peer-review in both English and Spanish.

-Selecting an ample pool of competent, timely reviewers, highly literate in English and/or Spanish (the journal will also provide with its current reviewer database.

-Identifying and appointing members of international renown and prestige to the Editorial Board.

-Processing 150-200 manuscripts per year (of which generally about 25% are sent for review, the remaining 75% being initially dismissed) via Editorial Manager, an online manuscript submission and peer-review management system.

-Having full, clear institutional support for the duration of the tenure, including additional release time, office space, utilities, use of computers and other equipment, economic support for a full time Managing Editor*, student workers and/or other basic expenses.

*As a Taylor & Francis / Routledge publication, Infancia y Aprendizaje may be able to provide partial financial support in the form of a modest annual stipend.
