Magdalena Bobowik

Fundación Infancia y Aprendizaje is pleased to announce that Dr. Magdalena Bobowik will become the new Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Social Psychology (IJSP) (Revista de Psicología Social) starting July 1st, 2023.

Dr. Bobowik’s career has spanned several countries. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Warsaw, where she graduated with honors in Psychology. After obtaining her MSc and PhD at the University of the Basque Country, she worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of the Basque Country and Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow at the Department of Interdisciplinary Social Science, ERCOMER, Utrecht University. Currently, she is a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow and Ikerbasque Research Fellow at the Department of Social Psychology, University of the Basque Country.

She has actively participated in diverse international research networks, such COST Action (IS1205), and has been a visiting researcher at international universities all across the world such as University of Kent, Utrecht University, New School of Social Research, University of Groningen, Free University of Brussels, University of Buenos Aires, and Valparaiso University. She is also a Member of the Governing Council of the International Society of Political Psychology

Her research as a social psychologist has been dedicated to three main themes: acculturation and intergroup relations, collective narratives and intergroup conflict, and emotions and wellbeing from the perspective of positive psychology. Her activity as a researcher seeks to improve intergroup relations and social cohesion in multicultural societies or in post-conflict situation, and has been published in the most relevant and prestigious journals in the field, such as Emotion, Group Processes & Intergroup Relations, European Journal of Social Psychology, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, British Journal of Social Psychology, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, Asian Journal of Social Psychology, or Journal of Applied Social Psychology.

Dr. Bobowik’s research interests and sustained scientific, academic, and publishing activity speak to her dedicated, socially oriented profile as a scholar, providing her with a deep sensitivity to human social conditions that seamlessly matches both the IJSP’s historical trajectory, its present aims and scope, and FIA’s mission as a non-for-profit Foundation dedicated to “the development of human sciences and their social implications and extensions, by fostering research on human change and on the sociocultural transformations currently taking place”.

Her collaboration with international peer-reviewed journals, both as an Associate Editor (International Journal of Social Psychology, Psychodidactics) and as an Editorial Board Member (International Journal of Intercultural Relations), showcases Dr. Bobowik’s editorial experience and expertise. Moreover, her previous and long-standing relationship with IJSP as an Associate Editor ensures that her work with the journal, now as Editor-in-Chief, is built on an intimate, dedicated knowledge of its readership and its author base.

Dr. Bobowik’s international career, diverse research focus, and editorial experience, combined with her experience in both English and Spanish-speaking countries and institutions, ensure both the continuity and the growth of the journal. Her strong emphasis on socially relevant goals will guide her tenure as IJSP’s Editor-in-Chief, with explicit focus on inclusion, social impact and transformation, scientific transparency and accessibility, and academic quality as the main pillars of her vision for the journal.

With her strategic view for the future of social psychology as a science to help human societies, and her inclusive and rigorous approach to publishing, the journal is in a great position to continue developing as an internationally inclusive showcase of the latest research on social psychology throughout the world.

Dr. Bobowik’s work will build on the outstanding leadership of Dr. Miguel Moya, outgoing Editor-in-Chief of IJSP, and Dr. Guillermo B. Willis, outgoing Deputy Editor. We thank them for their excellent service to the journal over the last years.
